COURSE DESCRIPTION

What is this class about?

  • breakfast & registration: 7 am – 8 am
  • lecture: 8 am – 12 pm
  • lunch: 12 pm – 1 pm
  • hands-on session: 1 pm – 4 pm

In this didactic and hands-on session, we will review techniques to preserve the alveolar ridge dimension following tooth extraction. Several minimally invasive extraction and socket grafting protocols will be explored in detail. A simplified approach for bone grafting of more advanced hard tissue defects at the time of tooth extraction will also be presented. Attendees will perform multiple socket grafting protocols using various biomaterials in this hands on session.

OBJECTIVES

What are the learning goals?

  • To understand the factors that predispose the alveolar ridge to undergo resorption following tooth extraction
  • To understand how to minimize hard and soft tissue changes following tooth extraction
  • To understand the principles of socket preservation at the time of tooth extraction
  • To learn specific socket preservation protocols and suturing techniques to manage extraction sites for future implant placement
