I know that there are a lot of dentists like me who have gotten their IV certification in the past and just aren’t utilizing it as much or at all and have let those skills lapse because those are perishable skills.
Hi, I am Dr. Robert Bang, and I’m here for the Vesper Institute IV Sedation course. Initially I was trained in IV Sedation back in dental school.
I decided to refresh my skills at the Vesper Institute because although I’ve maintained my IV certification, it’s been several years since I’ve done it.
It’s a great way to re-familiarize yourself with any new procedures, new techniques, new medications that are out there to really inspire you and build your confidence and it’s a great idea to get back out there and put those skills to use that you already have. You just need to polish them up a little bit.
That’s a big advantage that the Vesper Institute has, is that they really encourage you to bring your assistants and your staff along with you so they can be trained in how to do safe and effective conscious moderate sedation.
Dr. Sayre, who’s been doing IV sedation about as long as I’ve been alive, and has done a lot of cases, and so you’re really getting a lot of good real world experience from people who know what they’re doing.
Not only is there a very seasoned general dentist who has been doing tens of thousands of sedation cases, there are actually two oral surgeons helping to teach the course. So from a safety standpoint, I think that’s phenomenal.
So the emergencies that they have are far more complicated than the emergencies we would have, and if we’re comfortable with that, we should definitely be comfortable with what we’re going to be doing within our own parameters.
I’m definitely excited to get back into practice. I think there have been some things that I’ve been missing out on over about the past eight years since I wasn’t doing IV sedation like I used to, and I’m excited to get back in and be able to offer some of these new services to my patients and help them them along with their dental care and their lives.
